Interaction Design week 1

I haven't finished setting up the blog templates but I'll start adding content anyway. The final assignment for my Interaction Design class, I'll call it IxD for short, is a report on my experience in the module. The brief hasn't been put online yet but I might as well start with some initial thoughts after the first two lectures.
The reason I signed up for this course is my interest in interaction design. Some day I hope to be an interaction designer. That said, I've never read any UX books, so I'm coming into this as a bit of a newbie. The introductory lecture outlined the structure of the module for the semester. We'll be doing one project for the year, and each assignment is based on the results of one phase of development. The project brief is quite open ended, we are to come up with a design to increase environmental awareness around UL. We can't just dive in and start coming up with ideas though, we must first decide on an area of focus. Naturally I'm still thinking of ideas for the end result, so I'll have to work on staying focused on the present phase.
I got invited into a group and had a brief chat with them about the focus area. One idea that came up early on was rubbish/waste awareness. I have a feeling we might settle on this.
I've been thinking about what technologies we can use to collaborate efficiently. We'll be required to set up a blog. Maybe wordpress would be good. Not sure about self-hosted or on wordpress.com. I think a wiki will be handy and we can probably use the CS department wiki. IRC would be nice but I don't know if the other guys would be interested. If we really wanted to get fancy we could try one of integrated collaboration web services but I don't know if I'll be able to research that properly in time.

Just testing out a blog mechanism. I think tags might be a good idea but I'll get the basics down first :)
